The Parma freight village is part of the UIRNet system, a virtual platform connecting modal interchange hubs in the Italian territory.
This project is aimed at implementing a management system of the national logistic network capable of integrating suppliers of services and contents to support logistic process management, streamline freight flows and improve safety standards. 
UIRNet, a company founded in 2005 to implement the project, signed an ad hoc agreement in 2007 with the Ministry of Transport establishing the activities to be carried out within first-tier intermodal structures as regards freight safety, with specific reference to the traceability of journeys and corporate organisation according to the needs of individual structures and the necessary integration with already existing systems.
